I just recently installed that VM. The Hardware Version is 8.

 

Now, another VM got affected by this. Any suggestions?

OK let's see if we can hunt this down now. The good news is that I was able to bring your freeDos to live on my "VMware ESXi 5.0.0 build-469512" and I was also able to reproduce your problem. The even better news is that I was able to reproduce it via the MOB as Siva suggested. So we know that truly somehow CBT on the VM has become screwed up. The best news is that I was able to get it going again. Please try to reproduce as follows at your end:

1. power off VM
2. remove all snapshots
3. set advanced VM config param ctkEnabled=false
4. set advanced VM config param ide0:0.ctkEnabled=false
5. power on VM
6. power off VM
7. set advanced VM config param ctkEnabled=true
8. set advanced VM config param ide0:0.ctkEnabled=true
9. power on VM
10. run your QueryChangedDiskAreas routine

Please let me know if that fixes your CBT issue.
