Thanks. I had a situation where all my vmkernel nics as well and vm nics were on a dvs but vcenter would not come up. SO I had to manually log into each host to move the physical nics back from vds to vss and change the port group on the vms one by one.
Maybe its a shell script within each esxi host than can do it
