Hi everyone, strange issue which I hope people can shed some light on!
I'm running ESX 5.1 and vSphere 5.1 with Update Manager installed on the vSphere server. This server is behind a proxy, which is configured to allow both HTTP and HTTPS traffic, however VUM will not connect to the two default https://hostupdate.vmware.com/ repositories, only the http://vapp-updates.vmware.com one.
The proxy has been in place longer than the vSphere server and is "known-good" (for example I'm hitting this secure forum through it with no problems, and can hit https websites from the VUM server). Proxy is configured not to require authentication from the VUM server. There is a firewall between the VUM server and the proxy, and watching the logs on it shows that when VUM hits the port 80 site, the proxy is used. However when hitting the port 443 sites, VUM attempts to go directly to the site and ignores the proxy, and is getting dropped by the cleanup rule. The firewall does allow 443 traffic, but only when directed to the proxy, which isn't happening.
Within VUM I have configured the proxy settings, however to the best of my knowledge I'm only able to configure it to use port 80, unless there is a way of setting it to use 80 or 443?
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, or could configure differently?
Many thanks in advance.
Pete
