I can't seem to find the document from where I remember the note about moving the ... file. But I'm almost certain that it is the logging file that you mention. I remember from the document that the ESXi host at boot will try to find a suitable location to store the file. If it can not find it, it will allocate system memory. The message in the document was that a) the file would not be persistent, making debugging harder, and b) on systems with low memory you might not want to waist memory. I believe the file can grow as much as 4GB?
